Our two Mack Littleton World Affairs Challenge teams came in first and second in last weekend’s competition at Regis University on the topic of Water, Water, Water!  “The One Drop Wonders” (Marnix, Anisa, Alessa, Chris McAninch, Chris Medema, Dorothea, and Emily), whose presentation highlighted the connection between lack of water and the poverty cycle, achieved the highest score. “Serosity” (Mary, Emma, Natalie, Josh, Holt, and Ethan) followed closely behind, exploring water rights conflicts of the Nile and Colorado rivers.  Scoring was based on student performance on the presentations, collaborative question, and an online test.

Additional congratulations to Mary and Alessa who participated on the winning collaborative question team with students from other area middle schools.  And special thanks to our seventh grade research assistants (Carien, Nikki, Jason, Breighton, Bobby, and Charlie) who worked diligently in support of their older peers while they prepared for this tournament over the last eight weeks in Design, Science, and Individuals and Societies.

And it doesn’t end with the competition.  We are taking our insights into action!  As part of the IB Design Cycle, the eighth graders have organized some water-related service activities for the next several weeks – starting with a creek clean up this weekend at Ridgeview Park.
